Deep State and Arab Revolution

Those who had been behind the Arab revolutions since 2011 were of the view that the deep state is weak, lacks a solid structure, and can be removed easily. This thinking was further emboldened by the swift departure of the Tunisian and Egyptian presidents Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and Hosni Mubarak. But the scene became clear when their lobbies became active.

Also, the experiences of the revolutions of 2019 indicate that there is a need to marginalise militant political Islam, rationalise trends in it to adopt more popular and democratic options, and separate ideology and politics, in search of popular participation of all classes and segments of the people.

To move towards real confrontation with the deep state, it is important to recognise democratic system, start political dialogue, reject exclusion of political forces, demand social justice. Also, for this purpose, it is essential to reject all new or old agreements of normalisation and breaking up with the Zionist entity. There are no serious and applicable options other than this.

Will the next Arab revolution ultimately have the socialist options? Will it depend on nationalism, democracy and social justice? Will it confiscate huge wealth in the interest of the state which represents the society as a whole, and adopt democracy and dialogue for its relations with those who are politically different, with the existing nationalities in the Arab world and its neighbourhood?

PA should Focus on Governance

The Palestinian Authority (PA) has restored its security relationship and coordination with Israel after Tel Aviv agreed to respect the agreements. The authority considered it a “Palestinian victory.” The PA is trying to say that the new Israeli position should get positive response as it would lead to clearance of funds, and a preparation for the resumption of negotiations after shelving the deal of the century by the new American administration headed by (Joe) Biden. However, what has preceded and followed the announcement indicated that there a regional alliance is being formed with which the PA is involved. It is no less dangerous than the Deal of the Century. Now, it became clear that cutting of all contacts with Israel which Abbas announced in May was nothing but a lie of an authority whose fate is already linked to the occupation (Israel). With this the PA has again created divisions and jumped into the process which would not mean any political achievement and would give a cover to those who are normalising their relationship with Israel and conspiring against the (Palestinian) cause.

It is required that the responsibilities of the PA should be limited to social governance with no contacts with Israel. The resistance should be launched under a national programme. The PLO should lead the people following the process of its restructuring by elections, absorbing all Palestinian forces and a change in its charter.
