What are we doing to save the planet from global warming? This phenomenon is having devastating effects all over the world. There is a growing cry of energy conservation and combating climate change effects globally, but very little is being done. To get people working on practical and real solution to this alarming problem, WWF has initiated a Climate Change Programme that is fighting global warming on every scale. Taking this initiative forward, there is an exciting campaign called as Earth Hour with more than a dozen cities involved in fighting the greatest threat our planet has ever faced. The campaign that was launched in Sydney in 2007, has become a world phenomenon now, but sadly only a few of the cities in India are part of it. On March 29, 2008 at 8 pm IST, millions of people the world over gazed at the sky in the tranquillity of soothing darkness to dip the energy consumption level. Being a developing country and having record levels of gas emissions, shouldn’t every city in India be a part of this? Each one of us working together can make a positive impact on the climate change. So, do switch off the lights in your homes and workplaces for sometime today and if possible, everyday – it will go a long way in conserving energy.
