Anas ibn Malik reports: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When you pass by the meadows of Paradise, graze as you like.” They said, “What are the meadows of Paradise?” The Messenger of Allah said, “Circles of remembrance.”

(Sunan al-Tirmidhī)

This hadith asks the believers to join the circles of people who are doing Dhikr or engaged in the remembrance of Allah as the Qur’ān (33:41) enjoins to do Dhikr: “O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance.”

Dhikror the Remembrance of Allah is a very powerful and simple way of strengthening your relationship with Allah, as you begin to depend on Allah for all things and not depend on other people. Allah loves the one who praises and glorifies him, and His love for you increases. The only care we should take is that we must understand the meaning of what we are reciting.

Dhikr carries many benefits and virtues. After the obligatory Salah we usually recite Subhan Allah (Glory be to God or High is Allah above every imperfection and need: He is pure and perfect), Alhamdulillah (All Praise be to God) and Allahu Akbar (God is the Greatest) thirty-three times each. Besides obligatory Salah, we should engage ourselves in Dhikr at other times as well.

Another hadith says, “When a group of people assemble for the remembrance of Allah, the angels surround them (with their wings), (Allah’s) mercy envelops them, Sakinah or tranquillity descends upon them and Allah makes a mention of them before those who are near Him.” (Muslim)
