The opening of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’ first English medium school on 6 June raised many eyebrows as the school authority has picked up saffron T-shirt and dark blue shorts for its formal uniform. On being asked, the chairman of Ahmedabad School Board, JagdishBhavsar, said, “We wanted to give a separate identity to these students and thought this to be a nice colour.” Adding, “There is no other reason or any political move behind this.” The students were distributed the uniform free of cost as, the authority says, the school mainly draws students from economically weaker sections. The school has been named after “Prahlad Patel”, senior BJP leader and the first chairperson of the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board.
