President Indian Union Muslim League G.M. Banatwalla has said that Gujarat verdict is a wake-up call to the UPA government and observed that positive action alone can save the country from aggressive communalism.
In a statement released on December 25, the IUML leader said, “Congress defeat in Gujarat is primarily due to its persistent failures on the ‘performance’ factor. Divisionary politics, as of Modi dividing people by communalising issues of security and growth, can be effectively countered only through consistent performance on the sound principles of justice, pluralism, development with social consideration, the rule of law, and just and fair governance.”
Banatwalla also observed that weak-kneed and politically hesitant policies cannot prevail over aggressive communalism as soft Hindutva cannot tear apart the false mask of a communal mascot.
“Well balanced development of all, justice to victims of Gujarat and Nandigram and innocent victims of police blinkered investigations, thwarting the false attempts to arouse fear that generates communal polarisation, earnest implementation of Justice Sachar Committee report, release and implementation of Justice Ranganath Mishra report, revocation of visa to Taslima Nasreen and her deportation upholding the basic values of moral limitations to abusing religions and religious personalities, removal of foreign policy deviations which bristle with potentialities of rendering India a junior strategist partner of the United States, all need positive action.”

The IUML leader also underlined the need of building up right political pressure for healthy policies.
