On September 6, a tussle between the police and the Ganesh Mandal took place when the latter became adamant for taking the procession from the areas dominated by the Muslims. When confronted by the police, the members of the Ganesh Mandal turned violent and deliberately threw Gulal at the mosque. This act led to the communal tension and the violent mob then set the shops and homes adjacent to the mosque on fire. A man named Shaikh Asif, a Railway Police employee has been severely injured in the incident.
Condemning the act of throwing Gulal at the mosque, Maulana Mehmood Madani, MP, wrote a letter to the chief minister and asked him to beef up the security of the affected areas. He even asked the chief minister to take strong and stern actions against the unruly elements of the society who risked the peace and tranquility of the area by involving in the act of vandalism.
Maulana Madani criticised the biased attitude of the police for arresting only the innocent Muslims, and urged them to deal the matter with justice by arresting the actual perpetrators of violence who threw Gulal at the mosque and who set the shops and homes on fire. Few weeks back, on the occasion of Eid, riots broke out in Niwasa city of Ahmednagar district, yet the police had the laidback attitude and did not take any measures to curb anything similar to happen in the future.
