Raja Ram Valmiki, the elected Sarpanch of Kinana village in Haryana, on 14 March, asked the girls of the village not to dance in schools and expose their body parts in the presence of boys allowing them passing vulgar comments on them. His statement came after a school organised some dancing and singing programme in the area. The Sarpanch wrote a letter to the school authority, asking them to refrain from organising such programmes where “girls dance and boys watch.” He said the decision was taken unanimously by the villagers after observing some girls dancing while boys were busy hooting and passing objectionable comments on them. The Sarpanch said that the decision has been taken to stop objectification and commoditisation of girls as well as securing their modesty and chastity in the society.
