An SIO petition filed 3 months ago has prompted Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court to question disappearance of junior college books since 2011. Following a petition by the Student Islamic Organisation (SIO), the High Court on 11 July asked the State government for a proper explanation within three weeks, regarding the unavailability of Urdu-medium textbooks in junior colleges. Urdu-medium junior college texts have not been published since the State govt took over the task of publishing textbooks in 2011. Students therefore have no option but to rely on textbooks by private publishers, which disturbs the uniformity of content studied. There are 562 Urdu-medium junior colleges in the state, with 23,012 students. Mohammad Ali, Joint Secretary, SIO, said, “The petition was filed because it has been three years since Urdu-medium junior colleges students got proper textbooks. They either depend on Marathi textbooks and self-study, or go to private publishers who are given the curriculum outline by the State board.

Farooqi, former Deputy Director, NBRI, stressed the need of protecting the Biodiversity as the religious duty of all citizens. This ecological ethics is one of the moral principles of Islam, based on Quranic Injunctions and Prophetic Sayings (Hadith), said Dr. Farooqi. In this regard, he quoted the Quranic Verse (6:38) as “There is not an animal in the earth, nor a flying creature flying on two wings, but they are peoples like unto you” and a Prophetic saying as “There is none amongst the Muslims who plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, but is regarded as a charitable gift for him (Book Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 3, Chapter 39:).
