The Delhi High Court on July 15 asked the Delhi Urban Art Commission to inspect an investigation report about alleged changes carried out in the Court-approved project for renovation of the historic Jama Masjid. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Manmohan passed the direction after going through the report submitted to it by the amicus curae in the matter. The Bench ordered handing over a copy of the investigation report to the Commission for its perusal. It directed the Commission to make its opinion known to the Court within four weeks.
The Court had in February this year asked the amicus curae and the Deputy Commissioner of City Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to examine the allegation of changes made in the project levelled by Varun Goswami, a petitioner in the matter. Mr. Goswami had alleged that the Project In-charge had made certain changes in the project without permission of the Court like reduction of the gap between the Mughal monument and the proposed underground parking around it. He had further alleged that the civic body was also planning to put the space around the Masjid to commercial use.
