The Gujarat High Court has sought details from the Panchmahal district collectorate regarding compensation towards damage to residential property in Gujarat riots. A division bench headed by the Chief Justice asked the government pleader to call for information after a PIL was filed alleging huge irregularities in identifying and disbursing compensation amount among the affected people in Khanpur block of Panchmahal. The petitioner All India Anti-Corruption and Human Rights Council has claimed that in four villages namely Khanpur, Naroda, Limbadia and Pandarwada, nearly 346 persons received compensation towards destruction of their homes. However, out of them some 125 persons are not eligible to get such compensation. The petitioner NGO claimed that during issuance of certificates to affected people, talati-cum-mantris and taluka panchayat officials had colluded with beneficiaries in order to siphon off government money.
