The Madhya Pradesh High Court, on 3 March, served notices to the chief executive officer of Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board, MS Zaidi, principal secretary at State Minority Welfare, Rajesh Mishra and others to explain the growing encroachment on waqf property in different parts of the state. A petition to initiate contempt proceedings was filed by Hafiz-ur-Rehman, a resident of Bhopal, claiming that invaluable land in and around Koh-e-Fiza, which is actually the property of Waqf Board, could be usurped by builders, who have already encroached upon the area. Not only private individuals and realtors, even the city municipal corporation is eyeing this prime land and is thinking to construct a school on the place. The court has given a two-week time to file the reply.
