The Supreme Court, on 3 September, entertained the request of Central Bureau of Investigation for early hearing in the Babri Masjid demolition case and fixed it for October. Earlier the case was scheduled for December. The CBI had said in court that it was a matter of national importance and should be heard on merit basis. Now it has to satisfy the court at the very first hand as to why the agency took three months to file the litigation in a matter of national importance. The CBI appeal is against decisions of a special CBI court and the Allahabad High Court to drop criminal conspiracy charges against Advani, Kalyan Singh, Uma Bharti, Vinay Katiya, Murli Manohar Joshi and several others. There are two sets of cases, one against Advani and others who were on the dais at Ram Katha Kunj in Ayodhya in December 1992 and the other against unknown Kar Sevaks in and around the disputed structure.
