Ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh (HIB), Allama Shah Ahmed Shafi, on 14 May demanded judicial probe into midnight crackdown on his men at ShaplaChattar on 5-6 May by law enforcers to determine how many people were killed in that operation. Mentioning that the crackdown was the heinous barbaric one in history and newspapers have published different casualty figures, he demanded that the government should find the exact statistics of the dead to the nation through a judicial investigation. He said a section of media played unfair role by publishing and telecasting false information involving HIB leaders, Ulema and Islamic scholars and urged all to refrain from spreading falsehood against them. AllamaShafi said they do not have any political agenda and they did everything to protect the dignity of Islam.
