The Calcutta High Court has ordered a deep investigation into the case of mysterious death of Rizwan-ur-Rehman, who fell in love with his student Priyanka Todi and finally married her.
Rizwan-ur- Rehman, a computer graphics designer was found dead at the railway tracks on September 21, days after his in-laws pressurised the couple to break the marriage with the support of police. The mysterious death of Rizwan has fuelled the anger in the state. However, considering mounting public protests, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee recently transferred Police Commissioner of Kolkatta Prasun Mukherjee and four other officers for their alleged hand in the case. But the kins of Rizwan as well as human rights activists supporting his case feel that mere transfer is no punishment; they demand severe punishment for the police officers involved in the case.
