In a bid to check eve-teasing and other immoral activities, the government of Jammu & Kashmir, on 23 December, ordered the owners of private coaching centres in the state to hold separate sessions for girls and boys and asked them not to take any class before 8:30 AM. It also directed the coaching centres to inform the parents immediately if a boy or a girl fails to attend the class. The decision has been taken in the wake of rape of a minor student who was attending a tutorial class at dawn.
Worthy to mention here that schools in the valley would remain closed in winters for three months. Therefore, hundreds of coaching centres offer coaching to students throwing every norms and conditions to the wind. An estimated 40,000 students are enrolled in different coaching centres in the valley. Many of them even take classes at dawn which is totally unsafe especially for girls.
