Kanjibhai Rajgor’s deposition before the special court showed the carelessness in which the city police have conducted probe in the sensational 2008 serial blasts that resulted in the death of 56 persons. Resident of Khodiarnagar in Odhav, Rajgor, 56, admitted before the court on 21 May that he is illiterate. Interestingly, his signature was found on a panchnama prepared by cops in the morning of July 27, 2008 about the scene of blast that had taken place in Odhav. Rajgor could not read the panchnama. The document stated in the end that it was signed by Rajgor after he read it.
The defence counsel cross examined Rajgor, to which the witness said that he had studied up to standard 2. He was asked whether he could read English in the panchnama naming the watch that was used as a timer in the bomb. To this he replied that he could not even read Gujarati. The lawyer took the witness further to his signature and asked as to how he signed the panchnama without having read it.
