December 6, 1992 is etched in history as the day when India’s soul was split wide open. The Babri Masjid was demolished, and in no time the nation burnt. Innocent lives were lost in the ensuing riots and the violence left many parts of India bloodied. That very day, at a police station near the disputed site of Ram Janmabhoomi, two criminal cases were filed – one against the demolition of the mosque, and another against the men who allegedly set the stage for the demolition, inciting kar sevaks from across the nation to converge at the site of the Babri Masjid to stake claim to the alleged birthplace of Ram. Senior BJP and VHP leaders including L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti were chargesheeted for inciting public and hurting the religious sentiments. Every delay and postponement merely adds to the disillusionment of those waiting for justice. But the hope for justice keeps the optimism alive that the guilty who divided Ayodhya and a nation with it, will be brought to dock.
