The Shaikh Hasina government of Bangladesh once again came out with executions and life imprisonments to Opposition leaders of BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the name of war crimes. In spite of fierce criticism by human rights groups, the government is not hesitating to awarding them harsh punishments. It suggests that the government agenda is to completely crush the Islamic movement in Bangladesh. But the history tells us that the more you crush Islam the more it emerges. We observed this in Gulam Azam’s funeral prayers in Dhaka and many other places. Thousands of thousands of people flocked for his funeral prayers. His funeral prayers were performed across the world as well. Now, it is up to the people of Bangladesh to wait for who stand for truth and reject who stand for injustice and oppression.

No Gender Bias in AMU Library

The question over the ‘gender bias’ for not allowing undergraduate girls to Maulana Azad Library in AMU is biased and culmination of prejudiced mind and biased thought on issues pertaining to Muslims and their institutions. How can the authorities term it as gender bias when post-graduate girls have very much access to the library? One may wonder why a small administrative issue was blown out of proportion and why do people with prejudiced mind make mountain out of a mole hill when issues of Muslims are concerned. Why their good efforts for the sake of society and in the nation building does not catch people’s attention.

However, the Vice Chancellor, who holds the prestigious post, should have used his words carefully and this could have been handled in a much better way. The administration should have tackled it in a more mature way and the media should have done responsible journalism to avoid the mess which hovered around in the campus last week. Hope the University remains calm and the decorum of the campus is maintained and no one is allowed to take advantage of the situation for their vested interest.

Islam has Solution for All

This refers to the article, “Islam in not a Menace but the Nectar for all” in Radiance (16-22 November 2014). The Islamic scriptures are deliberately misinterpreted and distorted by many who want to project Islam as a problem and not as a solution. The writer has reasonably put forwards to explain the misconception of Jihad and has stressed that Islam has never been a problem but rather a solution for mankind.

Judaisation of Masjid Al-Aqsa

Your editorial “Judaisation of Masjid Al-Aqsa” (Radiance Viewsweekly, 16-22 November 2014) is timely. The attack on Al-Aqsa in various ways has been the fate of this historical mosque for about half a century. But the Israeli attack thereon during the last two weeks is the worst since 1967 when Israel occupied Palestine.

This barbarity on the part of Israel has posed a threat not only to Muslims but also to Christians living in Palestine. Archbishop Attalla Hanna has rightly said that this is an attack not only on Al-Aqsa but also on the history, heritage and culture of Palestine. His proposal to form a Christian-Muslim federation to resist Israeli attack on the history and heritage of Palestine should be welcomed. Besides, the stand of Turkey that it is their ‘divine duty’ to protect Al-Aqsa also deserves kudos.
