In order to celebrate, realise the importance of the Constitution Day and to inform people about the emerging threat to the Constitution and the challenges ahead, MetaFrames, in association with D.E.S.H., organised Jashn-e-Samvidhaan on the occasion of the 70th Constitution Day in the national capital on November 26.
Arfa Khanum Sherwani, senior editor at The Wire, after highlighting the importance of the Constitution said, if our Constitution is protected then Mandir, Masjid, Gita, Qur’an and Shari’ah will also remain safe. In order to protect our Constitution, an understanding has to be developed among Dalits, weaker and marginalised sections, Tribals and minorities on the recent pattern of understanding between political leaders of Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra. So long as we have Constitution, India will remain secular and there is no need to feel threatened and frightened.
Dr Kanhaiya Kumar, while addressing the gathering, said the country is made up not only of bureaucrats, politicians and ministers but also of weaker and marginalised sections, farmers, labourers, tanga and rickshaw pullers, shopkeepers, mothers and sisters, army and policemen. One cannot imagine a country with high rise buildings but we have to see how much space is left for us to walk on the footpath. It is not only necessary for us to remember and celebrate the Constitution Day but this day is important for police, lawyers, IPS officers and government and opposition as well. Kanhaiya also emphasised that in order to meet the challenges today, it is important for us to develop maximum unity with minimum understanding and minimum understanding is what we are celebrating the spirit of our Constitution and its Preamble.
Dr Umar Khalid said it is important for us to understand the importance and values of our Constitution and together we should fight threat and challenges to our Constitution. We are here to celebrate our Constitution and also to remember Shaheed Hemant Karkare and all our police officers who had died on this day fighting with terrorists. It is surprising that that those who have hated Hemant Karkare and loved Godse are today giving us the certificate of desh bhakti (nationalism).
Dr. Kafeel Khan, who was recently acquitted of all charges in the Gorakhpur Case of 2017, after sharing his experience in and out of jail, explained importance of the Constitution and rights of individuals. Dr Kafeel, while asking the people to emphasise girls education, urged the people to learn their rights and make others also aware of their rights and duties.
Parvez Alam and Javed Ashraf also addressed the gathering. The programme was conducted by Siraj Talib, Delhi State President of Welfare Party of India.
