Indian Minorities Advocacy Network (ImanNet), an organisation of Indian Americans formed for the protection of pluralism and democracy, has condemned yet another brutal murder of an innocent man in police custody in India. In a press statement on 4 June, the ImanNet spokesperson said the custodial killing of Balbir Singh in Uttar Pradesh by a drunken Sub Inspector, Shailash Yadav, is another evidence of dictatorship of police. As per media reports, Balbir was severely beaten and sodomised by the SI and was injected alcohol into the cavity of his body. Later, the post mortem report stated that he died of natural causes.Meanwhile, the president of ImanNet, ShaikhUbaid, urged the young Muslim and Dalit doctors and lawyers to form an association for the protection of human rights and to monitor the medical and legal professions from being manipulated by influential persons.
