Police commissioner of Mumbai, Satya Pal Singh, on 14 January said that sex education is not the solution to the increasing atrocities against women in the country. What we need now is to focus on moral education. “Sex education needs to be carefully thought out. According to a survey, countries with sex education in their curriculum only have an increasing number of crimes against women. Look at America. It has sex education in its curriculum but rape is more common than smoking there.” He further said emphasising moral education that rape cases increased in the country due to polluted mentality of its citizens.
Singh also criticised vulgar cinema and TV serials. “Television serials openly show pre-marital and extra-marital sex. Nobody condemns it. Plus the current generation has easy access to pornographic sites,” he added.
