They are at it again, stoking hate, enmity and murderous sentiments. It is the worst disease which refuses to loosen its grip on India’s body politic. Three years back it was in North-East part of our capital. Now it is in Mewat in Haryana. Election in Haryana is round the corner. One can easily guess who is behind these recent disturbances and who will benefit from these unfortunate happenings. Seven persons, including two home guards, have lost their lives as yet. To add insult to injury, the Haryana government has started demolition of “unauthorised” houses and shops. One more bulldozer baba to terrorise the poor have-nots. Again, not much wisdom is required to learn who are the victims.

Divide and rule has been adopted as the basic policy of governance by the ruling party. The great father of “the projected Mother of Democracy” has no words of sympathy for the unfortunate victims of this communal madness. No appeal for peace because it is counter productive for the forthcoming elections. On the other hand, election propaganda in shrill tones, with communal undertones continues unabated.

We cannot expect any corrective steps or amendment to this Hitlerite policy of spreading hate and stoking riots. Meanwhile, the whole world has taken serious note of the riots in the neighbourhood of our capital. The New York Times,CNN and all other media houses have widely reported and condemned on the persons and policies behind the communal clashes. Some of the reports squarely hold the powers-that-be for the disturbances.

The human rights activist and former judge Kalse Patil of Maharashtra explains that divide and rule is leitmotif of the BJP. Mr. Satyapal Malik, former Governor of J&K, Goa, etc., says, “We should not be surprised if “they” hatch some conspiracy of killing some bigwig of ruling party or an attack on nearing completion Ram Temple at Ayodhya to deepen the divide and get political gains in the forthcoming elections.” He was the Governor who implemented the abrogation of Article 370 in J&K and depriving the citizens of the state by imposition of centre’s rule. In tens of interviews, he has explained how Pulwama was allowed to happen and how it was misused for 2019 elections. Mr. Prashant Bhushan also has predicted some such attack in Pak-occupied Kashmir.

It is not only the INDIA Alliance but all leading intellectuals and democrats of India are saying in one voice that if people do not unite, democracy would become a thing of past in India. Some prominent among them are Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Mrinal Pande, and a number of former judges and distinguished writers, journalists, authors and editors.

The irresponsible rulers who have stoked the fires are now a frightened lot. Common people are extremely frustrated and annoyed. Therefore, they think that extreme divisiveness and stoking of communal passions is the last resort to remain in power. The portents ahead are very grave for the ruling party, and fraught with greater dangers for the unity, integrity and prosperity of India. Only God can save the country. So God save us, guide us and give us wisdom and courage to all well meaning citizens to unite and counter the negative and destructive forces.
