SSP PRABHAKAR CHOWDHARY’S FATHER ANGRY AT GOVT OVER SON’S TRANSFERS

Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chowdhary was recently transferred from Bareilly for reportedly issuing a lathi-charge order against Kanwariyas, who were confronting the cops to take out a procession via an unauthorised route. Indian Police Service officer of the 2010 batch of UP cadre, Chaudhary was transferred 18 times in the last eight years. After serving as SSP of Bareilly for just a few months, he was made commandant of the Lucknow-based 32nd Battalion of the PAC.

SSP’s father Parasnath Chowdhary, who has been associated with the BJP and Sangh for a long time, has reacted angrily over his son’s transfer. Talking with the UP Tak channel, he said, “I have been associated with BJP and held various big positions. But now I am against the BJP. I don’t hold a big position, but I have influence in 10-20 villages. Now I will not let BJP win.” Speaking on the Bareilly incident, Parasnath Chowdhary also said that the person who should have been rewarded was removed.

ROHINGYA REFUGEES DETAINED AFTER NUH VIOLENCE

After the tensions and violence, including attacks on Muslims in Nuh, their properties and places of worship, the Rohingya have faced fresh threats and fears, The Wire reported on August 6.A Rohingya refugee who had left his home in Nuh because of the communal violence in the area said, “I can’t tell you where I am, but I have left Nuh fearing attacks.” Talking to The Wire from a refugee camp in Nuh, Mohammed Alam is worried about what the police will make of his 21-year-old son, Mehboob Rehman, an employee of the Daji Development and Justice Initiative. On August 4, Rehman was picked up from his office and hasn’t returned since. Alam recalls how the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) officers arrived at their camp in Nuh’s Siddiq Nagar to take Rehman away. After they were told that Rehman was at work, they picked him up from his office. Rehman quietly obeyed and walked away with the officers.

On the same day, another Rohingya Muslim, Saiful Islam was also picked up from the camp at Siddiq Nagar in Haryana’s Nuh town, about 100 km from the city. Islam, 26, is a father of two and a daily wager. His family is also uncertain about his whereabouts. Jiabul Alam, Islam’s relative, said that the FRRO officers told the community at the refugee camp that they had a list of at least 17 locals they wanted to arrest, and had gotten only two so far.

SIGNIFICANCE OF PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE FOR INDIA

September 21 is celebrated the world over as World Peace Day. October 2 is commemorated as the International Day of Non-Violence. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind feels that both these days have a special significance for India. In a statement on August 2, JIH said: “We are a multi-cultural, multi-religious, and multi-lingual country with a Constitution that is based on principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. These abiding principles demand that we the people of India live together in peace and harmony. Today, some forces are seeking power in the name of hate and division and hence becoming a threat to peace and progress. Society needs to develop mutual tolerance and trust among each other.

“Jamaat-e-Islami Hind feels that the message of non-violence and the resolution of differences can only be through the process of dialogue, debate, and discussion. Might is right is the rule of the jungle and not that of civilized societies. Maintaining communal harmony and a conducive atmosphere for mutual cooperation and support at every level of society and leadership and between communities is the way ahead to develop as a nation. We hope the people of India disown and discard those trying to polarise and divide society through hate and deceit. The road to peace and progress requires unity, fraternity, and brotherhood. We owe it to our future generations.”
