Muslim man lynched ‘on suspicion of carrying beef’

A Muslim man succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Siwan on March 8 after a mob brutally thrashed him a day before in Bihar’s Saran district on the suspicion that he was carrying beef, the police said. Naseem Qureshi, 56, a resident of Hasanpur village in adjoining Siwan district, and his nephew Firoz Ahmed Qureshi were on their way to meet some acquaintances when the mob allegedly intercepted them at Jogia village, about 110 km northwest of Patna.

Local sarpanch Sushil Singh and two others – Ravi Sah and Ujwal Sharma – were arrested for lynching which comes close on the heels of another such case in Gaya district on February 23.

Zakat Centre India Unveils Impact Report

Zakat Centre India’s Annual Zakat Impact Report was unveiled by President of Jamaat-e-Islami HindSyed Sadatullah Husaini in New Delhi on March 10, around 1.PM. The report presents an overview of achievements by Zakat Centre India over the previous year.

The pan India Organisation was established last year as a collective Zakat System, with the objective to eliminate poverty and create a self-reliant Ummah. It started with 10 units. And this year it’s going to add 10 more units totalling20 units across India. The report gives an overview of the schemes implemented, the number of beneficiaries, few success stories, etc.

The major areas on which Zakat Centre India works are as follows:

  • Income Generating Activities – Livelihood / Rozgar schemes
  • Merit cum Means Scholarship programmes for students pursuing UG, PG, Research Scholars, training in Civil services and Skill development
  • Masawath Programme providing pension/ Aid to widows, abandoned women, families of victims of atrocities, etc.
