It is reported from Nawas bin Sam’an that he heard the Holy Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be with him) say, “On the Day of Judgement the Qur’ān and those who believe in it and acted upon it will be brought before God, and Surah Baqara and Surah Aal-e-Imran as representatives of the whole Qur’ān will intercede before God on behalf of their followers that they are deserving of Mercy and Forgiveness and may be dealt with mercifully.”

(Muslim)

As the Qur’ān is the Book of God, many are the blessings of its recitation. Its recitation means reciting it with correct pronunciation and following its commandments, just to earn the pleasure of God. It includes trying to understand and thinking over the Qur’ānic verses to seek guidance from them. Also, one must not acquire the knowledge of the Qur’ān to earn worldly benefits. If a believer fulfils all these preconditions of the recitation of the Qur’ān, he will succeed here and in the hereafter. This hadīth gives the believers glad tidings that on the Day of Judgement, Surah Baqarah and Surah Aal-e-Imran will intercede before God on behalf of their believers, and recommend their cases as deserving of Divine Mercy and Forgiveness.

When human beings will be awakened for accountability of their deeds on earth, and when everyone will stand in need of Mercy and Forgiveness of God, the Qur’ān’s intercession may earn the pleasure and thus Mercy and Forgiveness of God for those who spent their life on earth in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Book.
