At the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on May 13, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi accused the United States and Israel of carrying out ‘brutal and unlawful aggression’ against Iran and urged BRICS nations to take a stronger stand against Western domination in global affairs.
Addressing ministers, Araghchi claimed Iran had faced attacks twice within less than a year by the US and Israel. He rejected allegations regarding Tehran’s nuclear activities, stating such claims contradicted assessments by the International Atomic Energy Agency and American intelligence agencies.
Speaking before External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and BRICS representatives, Araghchi described Iran as a victim of ‘illegal expansionism and warmongering’. He warned regional instability harms all nations, including those responsible for military aggression.
“Iran is unbreakable,” he declared, adding the country grows ‘stronger and more united’ under pressure. While stressing Iran’s readiness to defend itself militarily, he said diplomacy remained important. “There is no such thing as a military solution to anything related to Iran,” he stated.
Araghchi also presented BRICS as a symbol of the rise of Global South and a shift away from Western-led power structures. He urged BRICS countries to condemn actions by the US and Israel against Iran and resist the politicisation of international institutions.
