The senior journalist Qurban Ali said that Muslim and Islam are being unfairly targeted today. Therefore it is necessary that the correct picture of Islam and Muslims should be presented before people. He said that the present time is a period of great distress and tribulation for Muslims because of the atmosphere of mistrust of Muslims and misrepresentation of Islam. He said that Islam stands for peace and promotes human brotherhood and respect for human life. The concept of Jihad is being misinterpreted to tarnish the message of Islam. Islam gives utmost importance to sanctity of life and equates killing of one person to killing of entire humanity. It even prohibits suicide and harm to any living thing. He advised the students to convey their views to media through their articles and comments. Mr Qurban Ali was speaking in a symposium organised by the Students’ Union of AMU on March 24.
