Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President (Ameer) of Jamaat Islami Hind (JIH) after the release of Policy and Programme for the new 4-year term, 2019-23, at the Press Club of India on 13 July said given the kind of hate and violence we see in the various parts of the country it is important to do social awakening and our focus would be to work towards social reform and for that religious leaders, youth and people from all sections of society should together initiate dialogue at all levels to ensure peace and togetherness. Thus alone we can douse the flame of hatred and violence.
The JIH president, while replying to a question, said there is urgent need to clear the doubts, misconception and misinformation people have about Islam and to promote the constitutional values of equality, justice and fraternity. The advent of Islam was to establish peace and justice and its message is not for any particular community but for the entire humanity.
In reply to yet another question, he said Islam came to wipe out terrorism from the entire world. Islam means peace; and peace and terrorism are the two opposite poles. Islam came to establish peace and Islam is the antithesis of terror. When asked about unity of Muslims the JIH President said: “Unity of Muslims is very essential and we will strive for it but there should also be unity among Muslims and other oppressed and weaker sections, including like-minded people. It is important to remain unite if we want to achieve progress and development.”
Earlier, after briefing the media about the new Policy and Programme, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Muhammad Salim Engineer said, “Our relationship with the government would be that of citizens and the state and we would try to strengthen our relationship but at the same time we would also intervene and criticise the policies of the government if we feel they are against people, society and the country.”
