Islamic Relief has begun delivering 1,000 emergency shelter kits to survivors of devastating flooding in Nepal, one of the worst natural disasters to hit the country in recent memory.On Sep. 2, the organisation delivered 420 kits in Rasuwa District, one of the worst-affected areas, with a further 580 kits dispatched the following day. Each kit contains tarpaulins, blankets, pillows, and foam mattresses to help families meet their immediate needs.
The response comes as the death toll from the flooding claimed 1,204 human lives and 4,216 remain missing after flash floods tore along Nepal’s border with Tibet on Aug. 26.
Continued rainfall, particularly during evenings, is complicating search and rescue operations. Damaged roads and bridges, rising prices of relief items, and increasing transportation costs are hampering access and making delivery of assistance more difficult and costly.
Islamic Relief is closely monitoring the evolving emergency and coordinating with government authorities and humanitarian partners to support an effective and targeted response.
