The Special Court of Ahmedabad has acquitted one more person of Godhra Train burning case in 2002. The Sessions Judge, Punam Singh, pronounced the judgement recently holding Ismail Chanang not guilty in the case. So far, 64 persons including Ismail have been acquitted of the Train Burning case. While the Sessions Court had earlier convicted 31 accused for their role in the case and awarded them life imprisonment, all the convicted moved an appeal in the High Court where the case is still pending.

Ismail was arrested from his house on 3 March 2011 and his trail was being conducted in High Security Sabarmati Jail. Ismail was booked for Murder, Attempt to Murder, Abetment of Communal Riots and Criminal Conspiracy. It is to be noted here that two coaches of Sabarmati Exp, which had scores of Karsevaks returning from Ayodhya, were set ablaze in Gujarat in 2002. And it is said the said incident led to the genocide of Muslims in Gujarat.
