The western world embarked on a journey of conquest of the world after Renaissance. It opened the doors of knowledge and science for the whole world. But along with knowledge it promoted the concept of western dominance and hegemony. It resulted in the colonization of Asia and Africa. For more than two centuries the colonizers were looting the resources and wealth of the aforesaid two continents.
The second half of the 20th century unfolded the breaking of the chains of bondage and resulted in independence of scores of nations in Asia and Africa.
India’s struggle for freedom which finally succeeded in 1947 was a trendsetter for many countries. We had to struggle for our independence for more than 100 years. The discovery of oil in the Gulf countries opened the doors of progress for the West Asian countries.
The US which always swears by human rights and democracy had a tight grip on Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries. Zionist state of Israel was always used as a proxy of US Imperialism. Mr. Joe Biden said this more than once when he was a member of US Congress that Israel has been its proxy in the Middle East (West Asia for Indian subcontinent). He went to the extent of saying that Israel was so important for safeguarding its interests in the Middle East that if there was no Israel, it was necessary to invent one to safeguard its interests in the oil rich countries. That is why the US has been always helping Israel so that American Imperial Interests are protected in the Middle East. For this purpose, Israel enjoys full military and financial support of the US.
The recent Israel-Palestine war has laid bare the reality of invincibility of Israeli regime. It has also revealed that the US, UK and some other western powers and their governments may have imperialistic designs and go to the extent of worst crimes against humanity. But a majority of common citizens of the west do not approve the inhuman, imperial and hegemonic policies of their governments. This is a very positive trend of assertion of common people’s resolve to protect the basic rights and freedom of the subjugated Palestinians.
This was possible as a reaction to the worst human rights violations perpetrated by the Zionist regime and its supporting countries. In spite of its military might and western support, Israel was forced to bow down to public opinion of the vast majority of the western countries. Israel may not like to stop its anti-human policies but it has understood that it cannot continue its aggression.
Israel and its backers are exposed as the war criminals. The overwhelming pressure of world opinion has forced Israel to agree for a temporary truce in Gaza. If the pressure continues, it is expected that Israel will see reason and adopt the path of peace and reconciliation at least agree to a two-state solution. Otherwise the Palestinian struggle to be free from the Zionist state and the imperialists will continue. It is for the freedom-loving people of the world and here at home and its people to say on which side their sympathies are.
