K.G.Balakrishnan, the new Chief Justice of India, said that the reported clash between two judges of the Gujarat High court was “unfortunate” and that appropriate action would be taken.
Justice Balakrishnan told to reporters that “It is an unfortunate incident if the allegations are correct, we have demanded a reply from the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High court.
Earlier, outgoing Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal, too, said the Chief Justice of the Gujarat high court had sent his report on the incident and it was being looked into.
Justice Sabhawal blamed the media for “tarnishing” the image of the judiciary by publishing reports based on unverified facts.
The outgoing CJI denied that there was any mistrust between him and President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on the elevation of Justice Vijender Jain as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. “It was another case where clear damage was done by the media,” he said. He added that the media should do its homework before going public with cases.
