We indeed have a wonderful democracy which should be included among the Wonders of the World. It is a place where a Union Minister has been rewarded instantly and promoted to Home Ministry for his failure as Power Minister, which brought the life of more than 60 per cent of the country’s population to a standstill for two successive days. Sushil Kumar Shinde should rather have presented an ideal for others by following in the footsteps of Lal Bahadur Shastri who resigned from the post of Union Railway Minister just for a rail-accident. Nothing can improve till political rulers are held accountable for such big failures. It was the duty of Union Power Minister to foresee such probable failures in the grids because of overdrawing. However, a permanent solution to avoid such break-downs should be evolved by making some auto-provisions, whereby electricity-supply to a state may be cut-off automatically on crossing the allowable limit to draw power.
