Mr. P. Chidambaram is the first Union Home Minister in Independent India to publicly acknowledge the rise of ‘saffron terrorism’ in the country. But what needs to be corrected is his assertion that it is a ‘new phenomenon’. The fact remains that it is a very old phenomenon and its origin can be traced even to the period before the establishment of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. However in the current circumstances, the Union Home Ministry must break the teeth of this home grown terrorism.
