That as many as a dozen top police officers in Gujarat were involved in a series of fake encounters to satiate the ruling class is shocking. But this dark chapter has a silver lining too which reflects secularism in radiant colours. While all the victims were Muslims (with exception of Tulsiram Prajapati), those who tirelessly fought for justice like Mukul Sinha and Vrinda Grover, and those who never wavered to expose the truth like Satish Verma and R.B. Sreekumar are Hindus. The immoral actions by the brutes like Vanzara would not have seen the light of the day, had it not been the timely retort to the investigation agencies by the top judiciary.
