In a letter to UP Chief Minister Mayawati, the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh listed out the irregularities in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The minister in his 14-page letter wrote that the BSP government is not acting against those embezzling the MGNREGA funds and sought CBI enquiry into the misuse of the funds. The letter pointed out the inefficiency of the state machinery in dealing with the corrupt and was sent at the time when Congress general secretary launched poll campaign in the state. Lambasting the inaction of the government Ramesh wrote, “If the state government wants to act honestly and send a message to the people that it does not want to save those who have looted funds, then I feel that you should ask for a CBI probe.”
