The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is undoubtedly the most well-organised, cadre-based body of the Muslims of India which has been active in every nook and corner of the country. It is not an organisation which is working for only Muslims but for the guidance and welfare of the entire country, more precisely for the whole humanity.

It held its last All India Conference in Hyderabad in 1981. The assembly was very huge and indicated that in future with growing influence of Jamaat such large gatherings would be not very useful. Therefore the Jamaat decided to hold regional conferences in future in five zones. The last decade witnessed such conferences for north, south, east and west India and for Kerala in Allahabad, Bangalore, Murshidabad, Mumbra, and Calicut respectively.

Besides such conferences, the Jamaat holds three-day meets for its members, and now the national capital New Delhi witnessed such a meet on 4-6 November 2010 which was held in the sprawling 18-plus acre headquarters of the Jamaat at Dawat Nagar near Jamia Millia Islamia.

The Jamaat has more than 8,000 members, including about 1200 women. It has over 60,000 workers and millions of general workers, sympathisers and supporters who are more sincere, enthusiastic and hardworking than the members of other social and political organisations and parties.

The Delhi meet was such an inspiring example of exemplary discipline that it would leave an enduring impression on the minds of Delhi people. In the conference the huge gathering of about 7,000 dedicated members drawn from all States and Union Territories renewed their pledge to hold fast to the rope of Allah and prove their faith in Islam by rededicating themselves to the cause of spreading the light of Islam to every Indian and bring about the desired moral, social and economic changes in the India society.

The Delhi Declaration of Jamaat issued in the conference stressed the need of taking back humanity to Allah, His Prophet and His chosen path. It stated that this is the only way through which humanity can solve its spiritual, moral and socio-economic problems and free the world from the clutches of materialism, exploitation, corruption and disorder. It also asked the Indian Muslims to come forward to imbibe Islamic teachings in their day-to-day life and present the example of Islamic character before the countrymen.

Finally, the Jamaat gave the clarion call to the countrymen to study and understand the message of Islam which has come from Almighty God and is addressed to the entire humanity and which ensures a peaceful life on this earth and success in the everlasting life.

The Ameer of Jamaat Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, in his inaugural speech and in his farewell message, asked the countrymen to give a chance to Islam to act as the alternative divine system to the prevailing systems of life.

Now it is for the adherents of Jamaat to prove through deed and word that Islam can serve as a viable alternative and shape the future of the country in the best possible way ensuring peace, prosperity, sustainable development and an honourable place in the world.
