In an apparent bid to further polarise the society ahead of Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and some other States, the 17-year-old who had opened fire at a group of anti-CAA protesters near Jamia Millia Islamia last year participated in a mahapanchayat in Pataudi on July 4, where he encouraged the crowd to abduct Muslim women, and “warned” those with a “terrorist mindset” that if he can “go to Jamia in support of CAA”, “Pataudi is not very far”, the Indian Express reported on July 6.
A purported video of his speech at the mahapanchayat was shared by several people on social media, added the report.
In the same mahapanchayat which was called to discuss religious conversion, ‘love jihad’, and a law to control population, Haryana BJP spokesperson and Karni Sena President Suraj Pal Amu made a brazen communal attack on the family of former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his son and actor Saif Ali Khan Pataudi. He termed their marrying Hindu actors Sharmila Tagore and Kareena Kapoor respectively an act of “love jihad”. He also took a communal dig at Saif’s son, Taimur, by urging the area’s residents to ensure that “no Taimur, Aurangzeb, Babur and Humayun are born”.
The report further says that Amu also incited the area residents against Muslims by repeatedly referring to the community through the use of the term ‘Pakistani’ and said: “Agar Bharat hamaari maata hai, toh Pakistan ke hum baap hain, aur ye Pakistani… ko hum yahan ke gharon mein kiraye par makan nahin denge… In…ko is desh se nikaalo, yeh prastaav paas karo (If India is our mother, then we are the father of Pakistan, and we will not give houses here on rent to the Pakistanis… Remove them from this country, pass this proposal).” No FIR has been registered so far.
