Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has demanded from the government to ensure rehabilitation of the family members of 116 Muslims killed in the anti-Muslim riots that shook the village Logai in Bhagalpur district in 1989 as well as the return of about 50 families who had left the village about 18 years ago.
Jamiat general secretary Maulana Syed Mahmood Madani said on June 19, “Though the Muslims of this village have got justice after the passage of 18 long years but delay in justice is tantamount to justice denied.”
He added that in spite of there being a secular government in the State after the 1989 riots, the delay in the hearing of the case passes our understanding.
“About 50 Muslim families had fled the village soon after the riots and local people occupied their properties. These families have not been able to come back to their homes,” the Jamiat leader said while demanding their return and rehabilitation as well as ensuring the return of their properties to them.
