Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh in his book Jinnah: India – Partition – Independence blames J.L. Nehru for India’s partition. Former Congress president and Central Minister Maulana Azad had also expressed such views in his book India Wins freedom. Thus, to blame only Muslims for India’s partition is unjust.  The primary responsibility rests on the leaders of Congress and Hindu Mahasabha. Many eminent Hindu and Sikh scholars, leaders, jurists and journalists like veteran Gandhian Pandit Sunderlarl, then Prime Minister Charan Singh, jurist and educationist Chimanlal Setalvad, author and journalist Khushwant Singh, etc. are of the same opinion. Although I hold no brief for Jinnah, I would like to say that the two-nation theory was not the brain child of Jinnah. Ardent protagonists of the two-nation idea were Nehru, Patel, etc. Later on Mahatma Gandhi also surrendered before them. Only Maulana Azad opposed partition vehemently.
