Bandhu Tirky, State Minister for Cultural and Human Resource Development, Jharkhand, has recently announced the appointment of 4931 Urdu teachers. The vacancies of Urdu teachers are expected to be fulfilled by July this year. This major step taken by the State government is aimed to provide employment opportunities for the Muslim minority in this economically backward State. However, the State had announced only 562 vacancies earlier. Strong reactions and mounting pressure by Muslim leaders and intellectuals have forced the State government to change that decision.
According to another report, the State has planned to establish an Urdu University in the State within the next six months.
