Former President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Assam North Kefayet Ullah breathed his last at his Sonapur, Kamrup residence at 7:15 pm on Tuesday. He had been ill for several years and died at the age of 75.
Born in 1945, Kefayet Ullah did his schooling atDhing KB and graduated from Nagaon ADP College. He did his MA in Arabic from Gauhati University. He was a renowned social worker, Islamic orator, translator and writer.
He joined as a teacher atSonapur Higher Secondary School and retired as Principal. He wrote many general and Islamic articles in daily newspapers and Weekly Mujahid. He published many Islamic books likeAdarsha Ganpanjoli, Islami Kabitamala, and Borno Porisoy.
JIH Assam North President Prof. Zohurul Islam Mullah,in a condolence message, said Kefayet Ullah was one of the pioneers of Tehreek in Assam. In the early days of Jamaat, he worked hard. He also added that it’s an irreparable loss for Jamaat in Assam. He had very good acceptance in the society as a whole.
Syed Abdul Hafiz, Secretary Assam Falah Society and one of the close friends of Kefayet Ullah said he was a very humble and active person.He recalled his companionship during the time of various relief works,especially his tireless role in providing relief inthe post-Nellie massacre days in 1983.
Expressing his condolence, Abdul Aziz, Secretary JIH Assam North said he was a very sincere and pious man.
The Editor of Saptahik Mujahid, Shafiqul Islam said during the time of Patronship of Kefayet Ullah, there wasa remarkable development in Asomia Islami SahittaPrakashan Samity; several books were published.
Former SecretariesJIH Assam North Omar Ali Ahmed and Asif Hussain said Kefayet Ullah was avery humble and soft-spoken manand one of the very sincere workers and leaders. He played a vital role in the formation of several schools and institutions at several places in Assam. He was associated with many organisations. He was one of the founder members of Assam Falah Society, Asomia Islami SahittaPrakashan Samity, and Hazrat Omar Model Academy (HOMA) Howly, Barpeta.
His funeral prayer was led by his eldest son Dr. Abul Hussain Falahi at the premises of Kapalkata Jama Masjid, Sonapur, and Kamrup Metro, Assam on Wednesday.He was buried at Kapalkata graveyard. Thousands of his friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay last homage to him. Many distinguished personalities also attended his funeral prayers.
He left behind his wife, 4 sons, 4 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, 4 daughters-in-law, 7 granddaughters and 9 grandsons.
