Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has condemned reported attacks, intimidation, and disruptions faced by members of the Christian community during Christmas celebrations across several states. The incidents raised concern over safety, religious freedom, and public order during a major religious festival.
Reports cited disruptions in Chhattisgarh, Assam, Delhi, MP, and other regions. In Raipur, a large mob vandalised Christmas decoration at a shopping mall. In Indore, a group disrupted celebrations and damaged festive displays. In Assam’s Nalbari district, police arrested four VHP-Bajrang Dal activists after damage to Christmas decorations at a school.
JIH president Syed Sadatullah Husaini expressed concern over repeated reports involving members of the Christian community. He urged authorities to take timely steps to ensure peace, safety, and communal harmony during the festive period. In a press statement, he said reports of attacks and intimidation risk creating fear and mistrust within society.
Husaini referred to constitutional values rooted in equality and freedom of religion. He said the Jamaat stands in solidarity with the Christian community. He also noted documentation by civil society groups regarding disrupted prayer meetings, burial related disputes, and cases under anti conversion laws. He stressed lawful processes and impartial institutional action. Religious festivals demand heightened administrative preparedness.
