Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has strongly condemned the police firing in Dhule town of Maharashtra on 6 January which resulted in the death of 6 innocents, and demanded judicial inquiry into the incident.
Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mr. Nusrat Ali, in a press statement, asked, “Why the police resorted to firing and why other measures were not used to disperse the mob?” He said that most of those wounded in the firing in Dhule have got gunshots in upper parts of the body. ”This indicates that the police fired not to disperse rather to kill the people,” he added and demanded erring police officers must be punished.
The Jamaat leader further demanded the state government to give Rs. 20 lakhs to each of the families of the deceased while Rs. 5 lakhs to each of the injured as compensation amount.
