The general Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mr. Nusrat Ali said the state governments as well as the central government, in alliance with the Waqf Board should erect fences around the graveyards. The statement came in the wake of the recent Bharatpur communal violence in which many Muslims lost their lives at the hands of Gujjars, wrecking havoc in connivance with the Police. The Jamaat leader said the recent horrific killings in Bharatpur on September 14, was primarily because of the graveyard land.

The Jamaat leader said the graveyard issue is of grave importance and expressed the concern of constructing fences around the graveyards all across the country to prevent any further scuffles.

On this occasion, Mr. Intizar Nayeem, assistant secretary, Department of Community and National Issues said that the efforts to solve the issue are going on and an RTI has also been filed in this regard. The RTI will reveal as to how many total graveyards are present in the state, what are their conditions, whether they are fenced or not, whether anyone is illegally occupying the land of graveyard, etc.

Mr. Nusrat Ali, giving the hint of Bharatpur, once again asked the government to take necessary steps at the earliest and to come up with the concrete solutions that would give respite to the minorities.
