Mr Nusrat Ali, Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expressed shock and grief over the stampede at the Naina Devi Temple in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh in which over 145 people were killed and many others injured. In a press statement issued on August 4, Mr. Nusrat Ali offered his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the incident, and described the rumour s of a landslide as a very irresponsible and condemnable act which actually triggered a stampede by pilgrims who ran down a narrow mountain path after railings broke.

The JIH leader urged the administration to adopt fool proof methods and said, “administration should provide a high level safety and protections when such big public gatherings or conventions are held across the country.” Lauding the dedication and passion shown by the local residents doing relief work, he emphasised, “There is a need to spread this noble fervour among other citizens too.”
