Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, on 1 October, strongly condemned criminalisation of politics and involvement of tainted people in running the country, and termed the trend as devastating for the country and countrymen. The Jamaat has expressed serious concerns on the ordinance advanced by the central government to give protection to tainted politicians. In a press statement on 1 October, Nusrat Ali, Secretary General of JIH, said, “It is unfortunate that even after 65 years of Independence we as a nation could not produce people of high moral values to run the country and system of governance – the people who could be trusted by the masses and who are true well-wishers of the country.”

Many a survey report reveals that there is not a single political party maintaining its existence without support of corrupt and criminal people. The Jamaat leader further added that it was the need of the hour, that political parties giving preference to real benefit of the country take some hard decisions at their levels to rid the country of filth. He suggested that the leaders of political parties with collective consultation can devise some guiding principles for the purpose. “It will be nice that popular leaders of different religions and intellectuals offer advice to keep politics from criminalisation and also strive for that,” he added. The General Secretary also welcomed the ruling of the apex court on induction of “Reject Button” in EVMs.
