In a letter to UP Chief Minister Mayawati, general secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mr. Nusrat Ali expressed happiness on her demand of reservation for the Muslim community. Earlier Mayawati wrote a letter to the PM demanding reservations for the Muslims as they are economically backward. Referring to the report of the Sachar Committee, she wrote in her letter that the recommendations made by the Committee should be implemented for raising the socio-economic standards of Muslims. While welcoming Mayawati’s move, the Jamaat leader in his letter wrote that though belated, yet someone at least has raised the issue that needed the attention of the authorities. He also expressed optimism about its future results.
The Jamaat leader also wrote that the state intervention in the issues of minority, which she talked about in her letter, would prove to be of paramount importance in warding off the backwardness in all the spheres of life faced by the Muslims. The act of reservation would give them their due constitutional rights, of which they have been stripped off for long and would help them in contributing to the progress and prosperity of the nation. Finally, the Jamaat leader expressed hope and optimism that the Chief Minister herself would implement some strong and efficient schemes to bring a positive impact on the Muslims of the state.
