Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Haryana distributed relief materials and money to nearly 100 needy street vendors and shopkeepers who lost their source of livelihood in Nuh violence, helping them restart their businesses.
The violence erupted in Haryana’s Nuh district following the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s procession on July 31, 2023. The clashes subsequently spread to neighboring areas, including Gurugram and Sohna, resulting in at least seven casualties and over 200 reported injuries.
Talking to Radiance, JIH Haryana President Mohammed Ishtiyaque informed our correspondent that the state unit conducted a survey to assess the needs of the violence-hit victims. The survey report indicates that many people have become homeless, and approximately 150 shopkeepers lost their livelihood due to the anti-Muslim violence.
Mr Ishtiyaque said that with the help of its local cadre and associates, the JIH distributed folding tables, stall umbrellas, and other essential items, along with money, to around 100 street and pushcart vendors affected by the riots in Nuh district.
JIH National Secretary, Shafi Madani told Radiance the organization has now planned to conduct similar surveys in other violence-hit areas, including Panipat, Sonipat, and Gurugram. According to him, approximately 500 street vendors and hawkers have reportedly fully or partially lost their source of livelihood during the violence. He further informed that the organisation is planning to build houses for about 10 displaced families in Mewat’s Ferozpur Jhirka area.
The JIH Secretary and Haryana President handed over the relief materials and money to the hawkers during an event. JIH local unit President Aqeel Ahmad and SIO Haryana President Nadim Ahmad were also present on this occasion.
A number of NGOs and organizations, including Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, also launched relief and rehabilitation work in the violence-hit areas of Haryana. According to media reports, hundreds of houses in the mostly Muslim-majority areas in Haryana were bulldozed following the violence.
