The Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omeri on 11 May strongly condemned the execution of Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami, the Ameer (Chief) of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami by the Awami League regime and called it another shameful act of judicial killing which is part of the ongoing brutal persecution of political opponents by Shaikh Hasina government.

Maulana Nizami was sentenced to death on 29 October 2014, by the so-called International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. The sham “International Crime Tribunals” and their proceedings have been declared mala fide and perfidious against international legal standards by almost all global institutions, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, etc. The International Crimes Tribunals violates norms of fair trial spelled out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both of which Bangladesh is bound by. The spurious trial was marked by reported harassment of defence lawyers and witnesses representing the accused. The Bangladesh government is ignoring all requests by world leaders and various social and human rights organisations and continues to unjustly accuse, try, and punish members of BJI.

The JIH President expressed surprise and dismay at the dictatorial attitude of the Bangladesh Prime Minister who is eliminating the leaders of BJI who at one point of time were partners with her in a political alliance.
Maulana Omeri reminded Sheikh Hasina Wazed that she too would have to face death one day and appear before the Almighty on the Day of Judgment where she would have to account for all the unjust killings and illegal detentions she has engineered. If Sheikh Hasina is committing these heinous crimes to please the anti-Islamic forces, then by doing so, she is inviting the wrath of Allah. She must not forget that in Islam the killing of a single innocent is tantamount to killing the entire humanity.
Maulana Nizami was elected to the Parliament for two terms (1991-95 & 2001-2006). He was the former Agriculture Minister (2001-2003) and Industry Minister (2003-2006) of Bangladesh. He was also the permanent Member of the Muslim World League (Rabita) which is the Central Co-ordination Committee among International Islamic Organisations and Centres. He did his Masters in Islamic Law with distinction. He was a graduate of Dhaka University. Maulana Nizami was a prominent Islamic scholar and author of 54 valuable books in different disciplines.

BJI Acting Ameer Condemns
Unjust Execution of Maulana Nizami

Acting Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Maqbul Ahmed on 11 May condemned the pre-planned and unjust execution of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer, world renowned Islamic scholar, eminent religious personality and former minister Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami.
“Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami was a very popular and favourite name to the people of Bangladesh. His contribution for securing people’s voting rights and establishing multiparty democracy will be remembered always. He has struggled throughout his life for transforming Bangladesh into an Islamic welfare state.
“Bangladeshi people will never forget his outstanding efficiency, transparency and honesty while discharging duties as Agriculture and Industries Minister during the previous 4-party alliance regime. He worked hard throughout his life for disseminating the glorious sermons of Islam to the people of Bangladesh. The countrymen became shocked and aggrieved as such an honest, pious, patriot and skilled leader has been brutally executed by the government.
“The allegations which have been brought against Maulana Nizami are completely concocted and the prosecution could not prove it. He is a victim of the political vengeance. I am severely condemning such vindictive politics of the government. The authority has made extremely inhuman behaviour and injustice against him even at the last moment of his life which is utterly condemnable. He did not seek mercy from the President as Almighty Allah is the sole owner of life.
“The dream of those vested quarters will never be fulfilled who are dreaming to make Jamaat leaderless by executing Maulana Nizami. By the grace of Almighty Allah, every drop of his blood will revive the Islamic and pro-democratic people of this country. This government has created a history by executing Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami and this incident will be regarded as the black chapter of the history.”

Turkey Condemns BJI Leader’s Execution, Withdraws Envoy

The Turkish Foreign Ministry on 11 May strongly condemned the execution of the leader of Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami party, Motiur Rahman Nizami. The ministry said in a written statement that it had learned with “great sorrow” of Nizami’s execution.
“We strongly condemn the execution, since we believe that Nizami did not deserve such a punishment, and we extend our condolences for the deceased,” it added.
Turkey said it will continue to stand in solidarity with the “brotherly” Bangladeshi people while they work to maintain social peace. It also said that for three years now Turkey has called on Bangladesh to suspend executions and expressed concerns that they would stoke societal tensions.
President Erdogan also condemned the move while several groups connected to Turkish NGOs held protests outside Bangladesh embassy in Ankara. In Istanbul, members of the Anatolia Youth Association (AGD) gathered to voice their objections at a park. Turkey has withdrawn its ambassador to Bangladesh, President Tayyip Erdogan said on 12 May.
